We’re having a BOY!
We are having a baby boy and are SO beyond excited! It’s funny because at our reveal everyone except for one out of twenty thought it was a girl [including myself & Nick!] It clearly shows in my face in every photo how shocked I was! It truly didn’t matter what he/she was to either one of us as long as baby is healthy and I am just so excited to become a mama along side my amazing hubby. I am looking forward to all of the things this baby boy is going to bring to our lives and it just makes my face hurt smiling about him being here in 4ish months! We are more than half way through and it still doesn’t feel real, although his kicks keep reminding me.
Our Gender Reveal Party
We had a gender reveal party with our closest family and friends. We would have liked to have a few more there but due to Covid-19 and all of the restrictions we thought it would be best to stick to that. Seriously so thankful for technology so we could share it with everyone and all of you so quickly!
I had a vision for this party and when I set my mind to something… I will make it happen LOL!! I had been on the hunt for a cute little picnic setup but everywhere I looked was crazy expensive to rent or have it all set up on the day so I just DIY’ed it and it was EXACTLY what I had envisioned. I have put together most of the items I ordered for you to recreate a picnic gender reveal party.
Photography
The most important part for me when planning our reveal were the photos. I did not have my phone out once throughout the day other than to pass it to my sister to video our reactions and I am so thankful to have hired Camilla to capture such a special day so that I could be in the moment. Seriously, if you are in Vancouver and need a photographer, she is amazing. I will be using her for everything now!
Cannons
My sister ordered these for us and although they were a little pricey to have shipped to Canada, they were worth it! Definitely [and obviously] the highlight of the day. Everyone was so impressed with how high they shot up and that they had confetti/streamers/smoke come out of them all at once. I thought it would be cute to have our dads shoot them off next to us so we could just look up to see what colour they were and it was so nice to include them in our special day.
Cookies & Cake
I had looked all over Pinterest for gender reveal cookies and found a design that I loved. Luckily, I found an amazing custom cookie decorator local to Vancouver, Cookievonster, to make some very similar. They also made great little gifts for our guests to take home with them! My favourites were the little onesies that said Baby Racchi on them.
Our cake was done by my beautiful friend who is also local to Vancouver, Sophia from @onesweetpiece. I messaged her to see if she knew anyone that did specialized cakes and she offered to make it for us instantly. I am seriously SO thankful because it turned out absolutely beautiful and OMG her buttercream icing is to die for! It was funny because when we picked it up from her house she was yelling at her daughter to make sure she didn’t mention the colour on the inside of the cake. So thankful for amazing friends like you!
My mom @1ofakyndbyjen made our cake topper with her Cricut machine and it turned out perfect! She always nails it whenever I ask her to make anything for me.
Decorations
I ordered everything I could off of Amazon and Etsy to try and keep the costs down. The next best place is The Dollar Store. I grabbed all of the pink and blue things I could find to decorate the tables with. We had tables with lots of different snacks on them with pink & blue candies scattered around. I filled up two glass jars with pink & blue lollipops as well for decorations and they were also a huge hit with the kids! I grabbed a few things at Party City last minute but you could find most of it for less on Amazon. I had real pink roses with blue fake crystals from the dollar store at the bottom of the vase and added some greenery around the tent as well. I went to our local thrift store and found an antique dish set that was pink and blue for only $30 and it had more than enough dishes for 20 people. Lastly, my hubby made the picnic table for under $50 and picked up the wood from our local Rona. I’ve linked everything I ordered here for you to shop!
Balloon arch tip: make sure you blow up the balloons extra small or else it’s difficult to attach them to the strip. It’s really easy to do yourself and took under an hour to assemble.
Outfits
I wrote a detailed blog post about gender reveal outfit ideas and both of our outfits are included here.
