Happy International Women’s Day to all my fellow Girl Bosses! Today is such an important day to recognize and celebrate how amazing we women are and what we are doing to continue to stand up against gender inequalities. This years theme is #PressforProgress [A strong call to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.] In honour of women all around the world, I am wearing Purple today which represents justice and dignity! Purple is the official color of International Women’s Day. Over 100 years ago, 15,000 women marched in New York to demand better working conditions and voting rights. Today, we celebrate women’s social, economic, and political achievements and call for gender equality.
I have witnessed gender inequalities myself numerous times in my current and previous workplace –the gender pay gap, & sexual harassment. Sadly I, too have been a target of it. I will never understand why this is still present in our day and time. The worst part about it is if we don’t speak up, it will continue on to the next females. One of the most terrifying things I’ve had to do is go up against a man [who was backed up by a lot of other men] and voice my rights and how I was treated unfairly. Let me tell you as terrifying as it was, it felt pretty good voicing how I felt [even if it wasn’t the outcome I was hoping for.]
I look at all the beautiful women who stand out for how much they do to raise awareness and make a difference regarding gender inequality. Michelle Obama, Reese Witherspoon, Meryl Streep, Oprah, Meghan Markle, just to name a few. So for today, do one thing out of your comfort zone. Stand out. Say something your afraid to. Show your support to all the beautiful women around you! It will make you feel empowered. Lets not wait another 100 years for things to change.
