There is nothing that I look forward to more than relaxing on a cozy fall day at home! Wrapped up in a blanket with my favourite sweat pants on and a warm sweater, curled up on the couch watching my favourite classic movie [legally blonde is definitely one of them!] Next to summer, fall is my favourite time of year. I’ve always thought that since I was born in September, it was the first season I had ever experienced. Whether that is the reason or not, the truth is: I am obsessed with fall. The colours, the weather, the holidays, the parties –it’s such a great time to reunite with friends and family and I just can’t get enough!
6 Reasons to Fall in Love with Fall
1.] Colours
Orange is everywhere! Pumpkins are the first thing that comes to mind when I think of fall and the colour orange! The leaves changing from red to orange to yellow. My dog in his adorable orange sweater! Pumpkin Spiced Everything! The store windows start to display all of their orangey goodness. One of the best quotes that Elle Woods every uttered is “Whoever said Orange was the new pink is seriously disturbed” and I think she would seriously reconsider those words today.
2.] Fashion
The fashion world flourishes in fall. I remember begging my Mom to buy InStyle magazine every September growing up –it is ten times thicker compared to the rest of the issues throughout the year. Packed full of all the latest trends and what I would look forward to seeing in stores for the fall season. I must not forget, NYFW is during the first few weeks of September. It is my dream to attend and I know I will make it there [hopefully next year] to experience all of the shows and events going on in New York during the change of season!
3.] Halloween
This one’s self explanatory. I love all things Halloween. I am so lucky that I get to do all of the fun kid things because of my little man! Dressing up, doing crafts, decorating the house, trick-or-treating, eating candy, lighting off fireworks [let’s leave that one up to the Hubby!] Halloween is great because even adults can dress up without feeling silly!
4.] Pumpkins
Going to the pumpkin patch and picking out the perfect pumpkin [and maybe even naming it] is one of my favourite parts about October! Taking cute photos in the fields and dressing up for the occasion is always so much fun! I get so creative when carving pumpkins, and it always ends up being such a great bonding time for the family! Finally, roasting the seeds and lighting that first candle inside the pumpkin. It’s almost a sense of accomplishment for all the preparation and work put in during the month.
5.] Warm Drinks
My favourite thing to order when I ‘go for coffee’ [which is actually always tea] is a chai tea latte. I could have one every single day and not get sick of them! Chai tea is a mixture of cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger, and black peppercorn. These are all the spices I am reminded of during fall because not only are they in my tea, but they are in those pinecone centre pieces we all smell during the fall months. Of course, I can’t forget the Pumpkin Spice Latte that everyone loves! Unfortunately, I don’t understand the hype around it as I don’t drink coffee, but they have created a Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte at Starbucks and it is quite delicious.
6.] Aroma
The autumn aromas. The first time I am out for an evening walk and I smell the smoke coming from a bonfire or a chimney, that is when I know it’s officially fall. Living in the city is a little different compared to Vancouver Island where I grew up because we use to have beach fires almost once a week, roasting marshmallows and making s’mores. Those are the best memories with family and friends that I will never forget!
Currently, I am drinking tea while writing this post. There is something so comforting about tea and it definitely keeps me warm on those cold fall days. What do you love about fall?
